Another Step Towards E-Society
On March 3, the roundtable discussion “Information and Communication Technologies and State Governance. Electronic Government” was held in Minsk in the House of Government. Among the participants were Belarusian and foreign experts, including Alexander Danilin (Microsoft Russia, PR Manager) and Andrei Marusov (Agency for Information Development, Ukraine, Director).
This roundtable discussion was the second in a series of events within the framework of the joint project of the UNDP Office in Belarus and the Belarusian Government “Support to Expanded Use of Information and Communication Technologies in the Republic of Belarus”. Vladimir Tsepkalo, Assistant to the President of Belarus, briefed the audience about the actions aimed at the formation of e-government in line with the program “Electronic Belarus”, while Vladimir Novosyad, Deputy of the House of Representatives of the Belarusian Parliament, presented his view of the Parliament’s role in the development and implementation of the e-government strategy.
In the course of the discussion, participants identified key factors needed for the implementation of the national e-governance strategy, namely: political will, adequate resources, appropriate laws, and ready access to advanced technologies. According to participants in the discussion, the Belarusian Parliament can play an important role in the provision of these factors.
