Gennady Korotkevich Defends Google Code Jam Winner Title
On August 5, Gennady Korotkevich, a Belarusian sport programmer, claimed the title of 2016 Code Jam World Champion. The event took place in New York. During the final round of the competition, Gennady score 170 points of 200 possible. At the end of the tournament, Gennady was 50 points ahead of his closest competitor, Kevin Atienza from Philippines who took the second place, while Russian programmer Egor Kulikov came third. For his win in Google Code Jam, Gennady received $15,000 and automatic qualification in the 2017 Code Jam Finals. In addition, Belarusian programmer broke a record as the first champion to win three Code Jam Finals in a row. At the moment, Belarus dominates in the Google Code Jam rankings with four consecutive victories — three by Korotkevich and one by Ivan Metelsky who was named the winner of Google Code Jam in 2013. Google Code Jam is an international programming competition hosted and administered by Google. The competition began in 2003 as a means to identify top engineering talent for potential employment at Google but these days mostly attracts sport programmers. This year, more than 27,000 programmers competed for the title of the Google Code Jam champion.
