Gennady Korotkevich Wins Google Code Jam 2015
On August 14, 2015, Gennady Korotkevich, a Belarusian sport programmer, was announced the winner of Google Code Jam 2015. The World Finals of the 12th annual Google Code Jam competition were held in Seattle, Washington, USA.
For the third consecutive year, a Belarusian wins the Google Code Jam competition. Gennady is named the winner for the second consecutive year, while Ivan Metelsky became the winner of Google Code Jam in 2013.
Google Code Jam is an international programming competition hosted and administered by Google to discover world's top engineering talents. The competition offers a set of algorithmic problems that contestants should solve in a fixed amount of time using any programming language and development environment.
In 2015, more than 23,200 programmers competed to qualify for the finals. In Seattle, 25 world's best programmers and Gennady Korotkevich, the previous year's champion, fought tooth and nail in an intense battle. Having solved five of six tasks within 3 hours 59 minutes, Korotkevich earned 155 points and beat out other finalists from 13 countries. Makoto Soejima from Japan took the second place, while Bruce Merry from South Africa won the bronze.
The Belarusian genius received the title of Google Code Jam 2015 Champion, a prize of $15,000, and an automatic qualification for the Google Code Jam 2016 World Finals to defend his position.
Today, Gennady's career achievements feature multiple victories in dozens of other IT competitions, including ACM ICPC World Finals, International Olympiad in Informatics, TopCoder Open, Codeforces, and Facebook Hacker Cup.
In addition, another Belarusian programmer Roman Udovichenko, a graduate of the Belarusian State University, won the 18th place in the final standings.
